Throughout your life, you have seen how many people have achieved greatness.

You might think they were born with special powers. I used to have had the same belief. I was wrong.

High achievers were not extraordinary people at first. They figured out that to stand out from the crowd they needed to do the extra mile. They needed to be willing to do what others don’t.

As I just said above, following the principle of doing steady little increments is the most crucial factor that separates ordinary and extraordinary people.

By doing that little extra will help you to build and form resilience. That little extra will help you find true meaning in your life.

Yet, based on my own experience it will help you to jump from the good to the great.

Building resilience

During tough and challenging times you will need to be resilient. Being resilient is a skill that needs to be developed, hence you need to build it and form throughout your life.

One of the most powerful ways to build resilience is by doing little increments on whatever you do at the peak of pain, suffering, lack of energy, motivation, or momentum.

If you often write for 30 minutes, the next day starts out writing for 35 minutes, then 40, then 45, and so on.

Did you notice the pattern? We are doing small and equal increments every single day. That’s powerful.

I started to run 2km, then the next day I ran 2.1km, 2.2km, as of this writing, I am running 5km.

Every time I pass by the last place (point) where I ended up the previous day I feel strong, fulfilled, and with an unstoppable mindset.

Is this easy? Not at all. This forces me to go beyond my human energy. It’s an inner power that comes from somewhere.

Under the hood, this is shaping my resilience. It’s testing my character. I acknowledge that is the step to unlock the next level.

Finding meaning and reward

Our brain works at a high level when it is rewarded.

When you do that little extra you will feel fulfilled. You will find the meaning you were looking for. Only then you will see that every word you wrote, every minute you spent on what you enjoy, and every sweatdrop will have been worth it.

Those who do steady little increments will reach a much higher level of meaning than the average person.

Jumping from the good to the great

If you want to stand out from the crowd you have to go from the good to the great. There’s no other way to reach greatness.

Yet, being great is not a matter of suffering. I argued before that it is a matter of doing steady little increments every single day.

No magic bulletproof.

As long as you continue forcing yourself to go a little beyond you will reach a new level every day.

Here is where the impossible becomes possible. Here is where you understand and embrace the well-known cliche phrase. “Believe, and the impossible becomes possible”. Indeed, it is true.

Yet, it is not a matter of mornings’ affirmations. It’s a matter of constant and incremental work.

Being an achiever is not far away from your possibilities. We learned that high achievers weren’t born with special powers. They did what others weren’t willing to do.
